When I first began my career in education, I feel I was more than aware of the importance in understanding different types of learning styles and how it is imperative to provide an environment for your students where they can take part in new innovative learning strategies. I feel that I have adopted a healthy mindset to consider myself an innovative educator. I want my students to have real-world experiences that they find interesting and important to their education. However, after listening to Dr. John Kotter explain how easy it is to under communicate, I found myself questioning, "am I doing everything I can and extinguishing all my resources to communicate the information accurately and efficiently to my team and/or my students?" Sometimes the answers is no. Kotter reminded me that there are better options to communicate these ideas and information to others rather than just drilling statistics and recourses into someone's brain through a 30 minute speech or powerpoint. Not everyone will take in and retain information at the same rate as you. We must understand the material as educators so we can then find what resources will benefit the students the most when learning a specific topic. All in all, remember that there is emergent technology that exist to help us become better innovative educators.
